Happy National Cookie Month!

It's October and you know what that means... National Cookie Month!

OK, so maybe you didn't know that, but now that you do, you have no choice but to celebrate. At least that's my way of looking at it.  I will be doing my part by celebrating on a daily basis throughout the entire month. (To be perfectly honest, I will probably continue to celebrate on a daily basis throughout the rest of the calendar year and well into the new year.  I really like cookies.)

Cookies make a wonderful gift, so I decided to use the occasion of National Cookie Month to whip up a batch to say thank you to some special friends. While anyone would be happy to receive a plate of cookies, it's even more fun when they're beautifully packaged. Scrapbook supplies are perfect for this! I started by boxing up the cookies, then tied the box closed with Doodlebug's green/white baker's twine and added a cute Doodlebug orange sticker on top. I made a coordinating green, white and orange card and used a second orange sticker from the Fruit Stand collection.

The orange stickers are adorable, but more importantly, they provide a hint as to what my friends will find inside. I made Orange Dreamsicle Cookies, inspired by the orange and vanilla frozen treats that we all enjoyed as kids.  As you know, I'm always on the lookout for ways to use oranges in baking!

I found the recipe in Anna Ginsberg's fantastic The Daily Cookie: 365 Tempting Treats for the Sweetest Year of Your Life.  It's an awesome book.  As the title says, there are 365 cookie recipes.  Each corresponds to something special that happened on that particular date. Tomorrow's cookie, for example, is Super Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies, inspired by the anniversary of the debut of the Peanuts comic strip in 1950.  It's a really fun book.

Happy National Cookie Month!
