The Cursive Project: Donuts

When you leave an 8-year old alone to brainstorm craft possibilities that start with the letter D, is there any surprise that you'll find donuts on the list?  Nope!  Fortunately for Trevor, he is in the enviable position of needing to put on weight by any means possible, so donut crafting was the perfect activity for Letter D of The Cursive Project.  We got up early, headed to the store, and picked out five donuts with excellent decorating potential.  Then we came home and got to work!

I decorated two donuts and Trevor did three.  My first was this maple bar.  I added licorice hair, candy eyeballs, a peanut nose, and half an M&M as a mouth.

Next, I made this grumpy man.  I rotated the cinnamon roll to find the perfect expression, then added candy eyeballs, raisin eyebrows, and Sour Punch Straws for hair.

Trevor turned a chocolate bar into a cute crab with candy eyeballs and red vines.

Next, he made a bunny out of a sugar donut.  The ears are bunny-shaped marshmallows.  He also used candy eyeballs, an M&M, and mini chocolate chips.

For Trevor's glazed donut, he added candy eyeballs, M&M's, and two lollipops.  By the time he made this one, he was done with decorating and ready to eat!

Here are all five donuts before we enjoyed one of the least nutritionally sound breakfasts of all time.

This was such a fun activity and a great accompaniment to the letter D.  Any guesses as to what Trevor chose for the letter E?

  2. LOL! This this great! Love all the creations but I have to say "Mr. Grumpy Pants" is my fave! Did you eat all the donuts after?
My guess for the letter "E" project is Elephant.

    1. The three of us split the five donuts evenly. We all like having a variety of donuts flavors instead of having to pick one or two each.

      Not elephant!

  7. Adorable! A totally fun and creative - and tasty! - idea for the letter D. I love all the different incarnations. The letter E? Hmmm, how about Engine? That seems like a Trevor word. I know he'd do something great with that! Otherwise, I go to creatures: eel, eagle, elk....or maybe elf.

    1. Engine, no. Not an elf. We've done an eagle before, so not that. As for eel and elk... one is correct!
