Little Passports 50 States Album - Another Update

Time for another Little Passports update! Trevor has received the USA Edition of Little Passports for 1.5 years now (thanks, Aunt Teri!) which means that he's learned about 36 of the 50 states so far. We've been working together to make an album with a page for each state that includes the Little Passports postcard, a photo of Trevor's first visit to that state, and a journaling about the visit. You can see the first completed pages (Washington and Hawaii) here and the next set of completed pages (Florida, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey) here

Trevor recently received the packet that included his home state of California. After some discussion, we agreed that the day he was born was the first time he visited California. So we selected the first-ever photo taken of him. As we agreed, I did the writing, as he was clearly too young to remember being born! Fortunately, I remember it well

Next, the completed page for Alaska. Trevor's first time out of California was on an Alaskan cruise when he was 12.5 months old. We sailed out of San Francisco. Our first port of call was Victoria, B.C., meaning that Trevor visited a foreign country (Canada) before visiting another state for the first time! I imagine that's fairly unusual. He absolutely loved Alaska. Even though he's been back to Alaska and has memories of the more recent trip, I did the journaling in the album with information about his first visit.

We're anxiously awaiting the Little Passports packets for Maine, Nevada and Oregon. Trevor has already picked out the photos and done the journaling for those pages, so as soon as the postcards arrive, he'll slide those in to complete those pages.

In my previous update, I mentioned that we're planning a summer visit to two new states. We have good friends in northern Colorado, so we'll be visiting them and doing a day trip (and possibly an overnight) to Wyoming. We're all really excited. Just this week, we made plans for a summer road trip to a third new-to-Trevor state, Idaho, where my brother-in-law will soon be working. We're looking forward to that trip too! If all goes as planned, Trevor will have visited 14 states by the end of the summer. So expect another 50 States Album update then!

  3. This is such a great idea. What a fun way to encourage travel, too! Love how you are doing this with the 6x12 pocket pages. They are perfect for this as the postcards will always be horizontal. What size album are you using? I have put 6x12 pocket pages in a traditional 12x12 to hold extra photos but don't have a 6x12 album. It might be a convenient size though. Not too deep for the bookshelves.

    1. It's a 6" x 12" album. Half the page protectors came with it; we just bought an extra set to bring the total to what we needed. I don't remember the brand, but it has a window on the front cover.

  4. Just because of this post, I ordered a 6 x 12 album and extra pocket pages from WRMK. :) They were on sale NSD weekend! We don't do the Little Passports program but I thought the album would be a good stand alone album for documenting travels. It's so much simpler to use pocket pages than to scrapbook at page. I am kind of coming around to smaller albums and pocket pages. I resisted them for so long. But I do think it's way easier and more practical than big 12 x 12 albums with layouts.

  5. Does the Little Passports program let you pick which states you'll get first or is it totally random? We live on the East coast for example, so it would be helpful to get the East coast states first. If it's random, do they alert you what states the next package will include?

    1. You don't get to choose what states you get first, but they do let you know what states are coming as each package ships. So I usually have 3 or 4 days notice which two states are on their way. The two states are always geographically far from each other, so if one of the states is East coast, the other in the set would definitely not be.

  6. Aw...he was born in California. Me too! :-) One of my favorite places in the world though I no longer live there. You've visited some of my other favorite places too...Massachusets, where my mom grew up and where I remember picking raspberries one summer, Maine, another summer with my Grandma and Great Aunt/Uncle...I still remember the smell of the forests...it was like potpourri. Colorado, and teaching my kid to ski. :-) Pretty cool! Enjoy it!
