Santa's Closet - A Printable Drawing Challenge for Kids

We all know what Santa wears during the winter, but what does he wear the rest of the year? This printable challenges kids to use their imagination to draw what they think Santa wears during each season of the year. 

Of course I tried my own challenge! But before you scroll down and look at my sketches, take a minute to decide how you think Santa dresses in spring, summer, and fall.

It was great fun thinking about what Santa does in the off-season and how he would dress. I decided that Santa's spring wardrobe includes a red polo shirt, khaki convertible cargo pants, a yellow and green ball cap, and tennis shoes. In the summer, he wears a red tank top, yellow and green floral board shorts, a green visor, and red flip flops. In the fall, he wears a black and red knitted sweater, brown corduroy pants, a yellow knitted beanie, and brown hiking boots. I colored my designs with my Ohuhu Kaala markers, which are always so much fun to use.

Rainbow Heart Sun Catcher

Check out my latest tissue paper project! This sun catcher really brightens a room and it makes me smile with all the little patterned hearts sprinkled on the larger heart. And because I used Mod Podge Gloss, it has a delightful shine when it catches the light. Affiliate links below. 

Rainbow Heart Sun Catcher

Materials: 

• 12"x12" white cardstock (65 lb. is best so sunlight shines through)
• tissue paper
• ruler
• Mod Podge
• flat brush
• scissors
• patterned paper
• 5/8" heart punch

Steps: 

Cut a large heart from scratch paper, then use it as a tracer to draw a heart on a piece of 12x12 cardstock. Set it aside. 

Choose your colors of tissue paper, then tear a small corner of each piece. Tissue paper has a grain, so you'll notice that one direction tears cleanly and one direction tears with lots of jagged bits. 

Use a ruler to help you tear straight pieces of tissue paper, making sure the grain is going the correct direction. The edges will be a bit ragged, but that's not a problem. . 

When all the strips are ready, apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the cardstock and lay the strips in place. I chose to overlap them slightly. When all the strips are in place, paint another coat of Mod Podge over the top to seal them. 

When the Mod Podge is dry, it will look like this. 

Punch tiny hearts from the patterned paper. Add another coat of Mod Podge to the base heart and arrange the tiny hearts on top. Place them strategically to cover any particularly jagged edges, or scatter them randomly. Seal the hearts with a final coat of Mod Podge. 

Hang your sun catcher in the window and enjoy the beautiful color and patterns of the rainbow heart.

50 State Quarters: Coloring Pages Using Folk Art Acrylic Paints

I've finished four more State Quarters coloring pages: Wyoming, Rhode Island, Mississippi, and Michigan. This time, I painted each with Folk Art acrylic paint (affiliate link). Painting in the tiniest letters was a challenge, but otherwise I really enjoyed painting each coloring page. I particularly had fun making the sunset background for Wyoming's quarter.

It's been a lot of fun using different art materials to do these coloring pages. Before this batch, I've used: 

• Ohuhu Kaala markers (Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Wisconsin)
• ink and colored pencil (Connecticut, Idaho, Missouri, Montana)
• Flair pens (Delaware, Indiana)
• Sharpies (Maine, South Carolina)
• Stabilo Woody 3-in-1 (Colorado, New Hampshire)
