Peekaboo Dog Cards

To make this card, I adhered sky blue cardstock to a white card blank. I cut my woodgrain paper into strips, trimmed them to 3/4 the length of my card, and snipped off the top corners to make the fence boards. I used a circle punch to cut a half-circle into the two center fence boards. I glued down the four outside fence boards, then put a piece of green cardstock behind the circular opening that was on the remaining boards. I tucked the dog into the opening and glued everything in place. Finally, I added the paws and the sentiment. 

I did an indoor scene for my second dog card. I put a pale yellow scrap onto a white card base, then cut four rectangles from a scrap of flocked paper. I rounded the corners and inked the edges. It's not a perfect couch, but I think it's passable. I glued the dog, his paws, and the sentiment in place and the card is ready to send. 

All stamps are from from the Peekaboo Pets stamp set, colored with Prismacolor colored pencils. There are a bunch of other cute animals in the set (though sadly, no bunny), as well as three additional sentiments. I'm sure I'll be playing with this set again in the near future. 

Sledding Dog Handprint Craft

Have you seen the video of Secret, the dog who takes herself sledding? It's adorable. It was filmed in 2018 but is making the rounds again as we approach winter. If you haven't seen the video, go watch it now. 

Today's craft is inspired by Secret, although I chose to change her from her black-and-white self to brown. Her proportions are a little different as well, because I used my handprint to make her. Affiliate links below. 

Sledding Dog Handprint Craft

Materials: 

• construction paper or cardstock
• microtip scissors
• craft glue
• googly eye
• black pen

Steps: 

Trace your handprint onto brown cardstock. Carefully cut it out, then use the scraps to cut ears, a fluffy tail, and tree trunks. Glue the googly eye, the ears, and the tail to the handprint, then color the tip of the nose black. 

Cut two slopes from white cardstock, then cut the snow for the tops of the trees from the scraps. Cut out a blue sled and some green trees. Assemble the trees by gluing the trunks and the snowy tops to the trees. 

Glue the slopes to the background paper. Glue the dog in place, then glue the sled over the fingertips so it looks like the dog is standing in the sled. Finally, glue the trees in place.

Pet Memorial Heart Box

Several friends have lost beloved pets recently. I designed this memorial heart box to hold a furry family member's ID tags, collar, or other memorabilia after they've passed. Affiliate links below. 

Pet Memorial Heart Box

Materials:

• Plaid wood heart box
• 1.5" wood hearts
• Plaid Medium Gray acrylic paint
• fine grit sandpaper
• floral wire
• pink felt
• Supertite glue

Steps:

Paint the wood box and two wood hearts Medium Gray. When the paint is dry, use a fine grit sandpaper (I used 400) to smooth down any lifted grain. Apply a second coat of paint. Paint the inside of the box using the same technique.

Glue the wood hearts to the box to make the ears.

Cut three pieces of floral wire, approximately 5.5" each. Glue them to the base of the heart, with them splayed out to look like whiskers.

Cut out two inner ears and a nose from pink felt. Glue them in place. Line the inside bottom of the box with felt as well.

Add a photo to the box if desired, then fill with mementos.

Two-in-One: Cardboard Tube Bear or Dog

My latest cardboard tube project is a bear:

Or a dog. It's the same tube. I just changed out the ears.

Materials: cardboard tube, paint (dark brown, white), scissors, craft glue, googly eyes, black mini pom pom

Paint the cardboard tube dark brown. Add a drop of white paint to the brush and wipe it on the inside of the tube until no more comes off. This will be the muzzle and tummy. When the paint is dry, cut one of the halves open.

Use that open piece to cut the muzzle and tummy from the light brown interior. Use the dark brown part to make rounded ears for the bear, or pointy ears for the dog. Cut a slit halfway up the center of each ear. Slide the ears of choice onto the edge of the tube.

Glue the muzzle and tummy in place, securing them with a rubber band until the paint is dry. Add the googly eyes and pom pom nose. Done!
