NSD Challenge #4: 5+ Photos and Bling

The fourth National Scrapbook Day challenge was to make a layout with at least five photos and some sort of bling. I made a layout using some of the photos from Trevor's cake decorating classes. The background paper has glitter polka dots and I added sparkly gold enamel dots as accents. That's about as blingy as I get!

NSD Challenge #3: Primary Colors and Stitching

The third National Scrapbook Day Challenge was to make a project using only primary colors and to incorporate stitching. I made a simple layout of Trevor with his friends, Marco and Julia. They are the children of my childhood next-door neighbor and best friend, Nancy. Even though we now live 1000+ miles apart and only see each other once a year or so, the kids always pick up immediately as if no time had passed.

Susan was the only person who played along with this challenge. She made this simple, pretty card.

Actually, I know of two others who played along but weren't able to finish until after the deadline. I don't know why, but it seems like there are always at least a hundred other things scheduled for the first Saturday in May. That's why I always put NSD on the calendar at least a year in advance. Nothing gets in the way of NSD for me! As always, huge thanks to Steve for supporting and accommodating my scrapbook obsession 100%. 

NSD Challenge #2: Then-and-Now and Tree/Leaves

The second National Scrapbook Day Challenge was to make a then-and-now layout and incorporate a tree or leaves. Here's what I made:

About four years ago, I made my very first then-and-now layout (here) using the first two photos of Trevor by the upstairs baby gate. I wanted to make another layout with those photos and include a more recent photo too. I can't believe how big he is getting! Almost 9. Where does the time go?!

Two women played along with my challenge. I love both of their layouts! Then-and-now pages are probably my absolute favorites.

NSD Challenge #1: Sketch and Polka Dots

National Scrapbook Day was a blast! I hope you all had as much fun as I did. I'm going to be sharing the layouts I made, one challenge at a time. The first challenge was to use polka dots and this sketch:

I've been wanting to do a layout like this for a long, long time. Like most families, we use a lot of invented words that are meaningless to others. Most are things Trevor said when he was learning to talk. Years later, all three of us still say yips instead of chapstick and hamaloni instead of summer sausage. I'm really happy with how this layout turned out and that the story is now in the album.

There were five people who played along with Challenge 1. It's great fun to see how each person interpreted the sketch and made it work for their story. I can see the sketch in all of them, but they're all quite different. Click the link below each to visit their blog or gallery.

National Scrapbook Day 2015 Online Crop!

Technically, NSD is tomorrow, but the Online Crop starts now to accommodate busy schedules and all time zones. So welcome to you all!

With help from Research Randomizer, I have put together ten fun challenges for us. Play along with all ten, just one, or any number in between! To participate, create a new scrapbook layout, card, or other craft creation that meets the criteria of a challenge. Upload your project to a blog or online gallery, then link it to this post. Be sure to indicate which challenge it fits. I've promised a gift certificate for one lucky random participant, but I'm feeling generous and might just have some other surprises one (or more!) of you.


Challenge 1: Sketch and Polka Dots 

• Create a project based on the sketch below. Use polka dots somewhere on the project.

 Challenge 2: Then-and-Now and Trees/Leaves

• Create a Then-and-Now project that has at least two photos on it. The photos must show the same subject(s) from different time periods. Incorporate a tree or leaves into the project. Here are some Then-and-Now projects for inspiration. 

Challenge 3: Primary Colors and Stitching

• Create a project that uses only primary colors (red, yellow and/or blue). You may also use neutrals (black, white and/or kraft). Incorporate stitching somewhere on the project.

Challenge 4: 5+ Photos and Bling

• Create a project that uses at least five photos. Embellish the project with bling. Anything sparkly and shiny counts as bling.

Challenge 5: Stamping, Triangles and Speech Bubbles

• Create a project using at least one stamped image, one or more triangles and a speech bubble. It is ok to combine these (such as stamped triangles).  

Challenge 6: Stripes, Chipboard, and Large Circle

• Create a project that incorporates stripes, one or more chipboard pieces and at least one large circle. 

Challenge 7: Washi Tape and 3+ Stars, but No Patterned Paper

• Create a project that has washi tape and three or more stars on it. You may not use any patterned paper (but it is ok to stamp or color cardstock to create your own patterned paper).

Challenge 8: A Number as a Title, Wood and Black/White Only

• Create a project using a number as the title (for a layout) or sentiment (for a card). Incorporate wood in the project (wood shape, wood grain paper, etc). Do not use any colors other than black and white. The wood can stay its natural color. 

Challenge 9: Animal, Chevron and 2+ Hearts

• Create a project that incorporates an animal somehow. You can use a photo of an animal, animal-print supplies, the word "Animal" in the title and/or an animal-themed embellishment. Include chevron and at least two hearts on the project.

Challenge 10: Use a Stencil, Exactly 1 Photo, and 2+ Punches

• Create a project using a stencil, exactly one photo, and two or more punches. The punches must be different (as opposed to using one punch twice to produce two of the same item).
