Six-Word Memoirs

In 2006, SMITH Magazine introduced their Six-Word Memoirs project. It's been wildly successful. I can't remember when I first heard about it, but I think it was in Reader's Digest years ago. I was recently reminded of it when one of the panelists on the Paperclipping Roundtable mentioned it. I thought of one for myself almost immediately:

Loved teaching, but love Trevor more.

It sums up so much about me. I was born to teach, and I loved my 11 years as a classroom teacher, but teaching one is just as meaningful and fulfilling to me as teaching 32 was. I love being Trevor's Mommy and can't imagine any other life. This layout sums up how I felt in 2009 and how I still feel now.

After that first one, I couldn't stop. I got a piece of paper and wrote 16 six-word memoirs. They were spilling out of me as fast as I could write.

Steve and Trevor are my everything.

This is one of my favorite layouts. There's no journaling, but it says everything it needs to say. Steve and Trevor mean the world to me. I'm so blessed.

Great mom, learned from the best.

I consider myself to be a great mom and I owe everything I know about parenting to the best role models I could have had. My parents were, and continue to be, wonderful models for what it means to be a great parent. My mom taught me how to be a great mom, partially through words, but mostly through actions.

Happiest when living a creative life.

There's no question about it - creativity is crucial to my happiness. Crafting, cooking, writing or any other creative effort always makes me feel better. If I go too long without being creative, I can feel my mood slip and stress start to build up.

.....

I may or may not share some of my other six-word memoirs in the future. I've realized that some of them cover aspects of me I've never scrapped. I might have to do just that.

Have you ever written a six-word memoir?

  2. Nope never have!
But now my brain is trying to...LOL! I'll leave that to the "experts" though, as I tend to over-think everything!
    Wonderful layouts!
I recall seeing 2 of them before, the 3rd and 4th one, but not the other 2!
I love the title of the first 1 and the collage of photos (at different times) of the 2nd one!
And I 100% agree w/ you regarding the need to be creative!
